Most people probably see me as a Stockport girl, having lived in Stockport most of my life. However, having been born to Scottish parents my ancestry is very different. My Great Grandmother, Julian Maclean was born on the Isle of Mull and as a young child was evicted with her family from her home in the mid eighteen hundreds, known a the “Highland Clearances”.
She settled in East Lothian, where most of my family still live today. My parents met in Birmingham during World War II, married and settled in Reddish, Stockport where I was born. With my parents I moved around the country, moving back to Scotland following the sudden unexpected death of my father and finally at the age of twenty two leaving the comfort of home and moving back to England where I settled in Stockport to take up a career change with a big top 10 firm of Chartered Accountants and Business Advisors where I was training in Accountancy and Company Secretarial Services.
My connection to Inner Wheel came several years later when, already having met a member of Gatley Rotary Club and accompanying him to many Rotary functions I was introduced to the Inner Wheel Club of Gatley. Although I attended their Charter and many social events as a guest it wasn’t until several years later that I became eligible to become a member and joined Inner Wheel in 2005. The rest is history. Gatley, sadly disbanded, I transferred to the founder club of Manchester, joined District 5’s Executive Committee in 2016/2017 and here I am in 2022/2023 District Chairman of District 5.
My chosen charity for the year is “Versus Arthritis UK”. Versus Arthritis is the UK’s largest charity dedicated to supporting the one in six people living with pain. It was launched in September 2018 following the merger of the two leading arthritis charities in the UK, Arthritis Research UK and Arthritis Care.

TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE
