As a nation, we are obsessed by the weather. Before and during the Jubilee weekend I suspect most of the country spent time checking the weather forecast. Would the sun shine? Would it rain? We were extremely lucky that the Inner Wheel Club of Hazel Grove chose Friday 4th June to celebrate the Queens Platinum Jubilee. The morning wasn’t promising but gradually brightened up to become a beautiful day.
About thirty of us, Inner Wheel members, partners and friends gathered in a member’s lovely garden to celebrate seventy years of the Queen’s reign. The tables were set, the bunting fluttering in the breeze, blue skies and the food all ready and waiting.

We chatted in the sunshine sipping Palace Pimms and nibbling canapés and appetizers (Corgi Canapes and Ascot Appetizers to be exact.) There is a theme here!
This was leisurely followed by Sandringham salmon with dill sauce, Hampton Court Ham, Coronation chicken, Birkhall Berry Terrine and Jersey Royals to name just a few of the delicious food to choose from.
As the conversation flowed so the food disappeared onto plates and into mouths until it was time for dessert!
A Platinum Trifle, which was the winner of the national competition to create a dessert to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee, was delicious. Other desserts on offer were Elizabeth’s Eton Mess and Royal Roulade. This was followed by Chelsea Cheeses, Windsor Castle Cake and tea or coffee.

The sun continued to shine and the conversation continued to flow and every one had a wonderful time. Getting together to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee will stay in our minds for many years. We are not likely to see another one for a very long time. Thank you Your Majesty for a long life of service to our nation.
