Anne Rawsthorne, Club Correspondent at IW Nantwich has provided reports of two recent events:
As we have been unable to meet in our usual venue due to Covid
restrictions Nantwich IW held a Wine and Cheese tasting evening in our
local Cheese Shop.We were welcomed by the Proprietor Nick and partner
Sommmelier with a glass of Prosecco then toured the shop and looked
through the glass wall into the specially created "cellar" providing
ideal conditions for the cheeses to mature.Next we navigated the
Spiral staircase to the upstairs tasting room.Past secretary Brenda
managed admirably on her crutches having recently had a hip
replacement! There followed an education in both cheese and wine
covering provenance , production methods of the cheeses and how to
assess wine by colour smell and behaviour as well as by taste. The
wines were selected to pair with the cheeses and the tastings were
accompanied by much comment and laughter.Afterwards, having got safely
down the spiral staircase ,we were able to purchase cheese, chutneys
and local honey to enjoy at home.

In November we held a Champagne and Shepherds Pie evening at
member Jane Wharton's home. After the privations of recent times it
was a great opportunity to dress up and actually meet in person for a
fun evening.Pies and puddings made by members were washed down with
champagne fizz , and the money raised was divided between The
Association President's charity , The Stroke Association, and the Multiple Sclerosis
Society. Thanks to Jane for introducing us to this concept and for
hosting the evening.
