Deana Emerton, a longstanding member of Nantwich Inner Wheel, and Past
President several times over, was awarded the BEM in the Queen's
Birthday Honours List.
Over many years Deana has been active in fundraising for our
community.The Church of England Children's Society:Leighton Hospital
League of Friends where IW members manned the tea bar.Deana and her
husband Gerald are staunch supporters Nantwich Museum and at Deana's
suggestion The Museum has become Nantwich IW's on going community
project providing volunteers to man the front desk; an annual Pancake
Day fundraising coffee morning and a successful pre-pandemic Garden
Party in Deana's garden.
Acton Parish Hall has been actively supported by Deana and Team . an
annual Race Night has raised substantial funds and when a
defibrillator was installed outside the hall Deana organised a Life
Savers day course, provided by instructors from Manchester and to
which numerous local organisations were invited.Her IW wheel team
provided a soup and roll lunch for participants who went home with a
an official certificate.
Deana has been a leading light of the Nantwich Flower Club and with
her team has overseen numerous magnificent flower festivals, flower
displays, and a Christmas Tree display, both for her local Acton
Church and numerous other churches in the area. Last Christmas, when
we thought Christmas had been cancelled, Deana, undaunted, got the
team to decorate the outside of the church giving pleasure to numerous
visitors.
Over the years Deana and Gerald have hosted fundraisers in their
garden so a surprise tea party was arranged By IW at Harvey's near
Chester in honour of Deana's BEM. Apart from her "official"fundraising,
there have been many small acts of kindness and support for those in
need. Deana has been a pillar of her community for many years and our
congratulations go to her on her richly deserved BEM The medal will be
presented at Tatton Hall by the Lord Lieutenant of the county at a
later date.
